Hi Moms and Dads! We know, we’re beginning to feel like a real member of the family
now, aren’t we? We’re Ok with that! 😊
We thought now would be a great time to get stuck into the subject of Podcasts For Kids! We know, it’s sometimes a little daunting to find that balance between technology and traditional reading material. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming, oh no, as usual, we’re here to help and boy do we have a few great podcasts up our sleeve!
Here at Wonderdal, we really believe in the wonder and magic of stories, books, and storytime. Not only is it a journey into a magical world but an opportunity for parents to spend valuable time with their little ones.
We LOVE reading!
But the days are busy and finding the time can be challenging… Enter the wonderful world of PODCASTS. Yup, you read that right, we said podcasts.
So many other aspects of our lives have been streamlined due to technology, why not storytime too?
Choosing the right podcast is not only a great way to get in some much-needed parent/child(ren) interactive time, it can be a great family activity too.
For more on the benefits of Podcasts For Children, have a read here.
Some suggestions before getting started:
- Always listen to a few episodes before allowing the kids to jump in – to make sure you are comfortable with the content.
- Sticking to age-appropriate content is the aim of the game.
- Try to mix up regular audio stories with interactive versions too (best for daytime listening)
- Create a stimulating, yet relaxing spot where you and the little ones step into podcasting time.
We’ve compiled a list of FIVE of the most excellent Podcasts that we know the kids and the whole family will enjoy! Let’s get started!
1. The Purple Rocket podcast

(Vroom, vroom, blast off!)
“Educational Audio Adventures For Kids!” The exact tagline that made us love this podcast.
The Purple Rocket Podcast was started by Greg Webb, a busy dad of three, who wanted a little zone where he could put sound and words together to all of the stories he had created for his children.
The Purple Rocket has a mix of content with mostly longer running series, including a favourite, Grandpa’s Globe. Grandpa’s Globe follows twins, Suzie and Sawyer who use their grandfather’s magical globe to explore the universe. Other adventures include aliens and fairies who go on magical trips.
We are particular fans of one of the “once-off” stories, entitled “My Homework Ate Me!” with the overall theme of the story centering around procrastination.
Podcast Info To Note:
- The Purple Rocket has new episodes every other week
- The option of both a free and paid-for subscription is available
- Subscribe via Apple Podcasts

2. The Big Life Kids podcast

As the name suggests, The Big Life Kids Podcast promotes some big ideas for little minds, all within an age-appropriate context.
Big Life Kids teaches children to stay resilient, believe in themselves, and face life’s challenges with confidence.
In every episode, Zara and Leo travel the world to discover living heroes who are making a difference in today’s world. The Big Life Kids Podcast is geared towards kids developing a Growth Mindset.
A particular favouite episode of ours is “Help Your Friends and Rise Like A Robot!”. In this episode, Zara and Leo head to a kid’s robot convention. These robot whisperers rise to the occasion, where we hear the inspiring story of Dhairya, a Big Life Kid from Sydney, Australia, who encourages others with his helpfulness.
Episodes can be downloaded via their website, here.
3. Story pirates

(And other things that like to go “Aaaaaaarrrrrgghhh”)
This podcast has the word Pirate in it which basically makes it a win already! But if you need some more convincing, here you go…
Story Pirates are a renowned group of actors, storytellers, comedians, musicians, best-selling authors, and teachers. Story Pirates is considered one of the Top 3 KIDS AND FAMILY PODCASTS in the world. The Story Pirates podcast stories have been downloaded more than 20 million times and all of the sketches are based on stories written by kids.
Special guest stars include:
- Julie Andrews (the hills really are alive)
- Dax Shepherd
- Kristen Bell
- Claire Danes
- And David Schwimmer (getting the next generation of Friends ready – oh, 90’s mom jokes creeping in – sorry about that).
For a list of some of the faves of Season 2, take a look here. We really enjoyed:
- The Disgusting Water Bottle / Robotics Engineering Doll
- Pet Stores Or Food Stores? A Dinosaur Ate Me
Apart from all of the super exciting stories on offer, Story Pirates also have the Creator Club, a space that encourages kids creativity with weekly interactive performances and live radio broadcasts for some serious family-fun entertainment.
“Come on me hearties, let’s all start walking that podcasting plank!” (we couldn’t help ourselves, we’ll stop now).
4. But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids
(Mooooommmy, why is the sky blue? Why isn’t broccoli called little trees? And other questions…)
Um, yes, the broccoli one is a constant, isn’t it? Probably why we simply love (adore, love, then adore again) the But Why Podcast. This podcast is a show led by… if you guessed kids, you’d be right.
Yes, that’s right, a show led by kids, for kids. The little ones, with assistance and supervision from mom and dad, are encouraged to think of questions they really want to know the answers to about nature, words, and the world. Ask the question via a voice memo or audio app on mom or Dad’s phone and send it on to But Why, who, if selected will find out all they can about your question.
Some recently asked questions had some pretty in-depth responses such as:
- What Are Robots Doing On Mars?
- Cool Beans: How Chocolate and Coffee Get Made
- Why Aren’t Babies Little Adults? (possibly our best question)
For more information about this quirky podcast, read up about But Why over here, and be sure to download the podcast over on Apple Podcasts.
5. Brains On

We absolutely LOVE this podcast.
The best thing about it? It’s fun while being educational, the kids won’t even realise that they’re learning while listening. Brains On, as the name might suggest is a science podcast aimed at kids (although we’ll admit it, our scientific general knowledge might have increased dramatically – it did).
Want to know how insects walk on walls? Or why ants walk in lines? Well, you’ve come to the right place because Brains On answers all of those questions and more – and we are so here for it.
They also tackle really relevant questions, like “How Do Vaccines Work?” which can sometimes be tricky for the non-science parents in the group (um, us). Don’t worry, apart from answering all of those questions and so much more on the podcast, the Brains On Youtube channel offers some corresponding videos too.
For more information on Brains On!, simply visit their website here or catch the podcast over on Apple Podcasts or listen on Spotify.
